General Conditions for car rental in Italy
At time of rental, when picking-up a car, AVIS customers may choose to accept or to decline optional coverage or insurance by checking into the corresponding box (accept or reject). Once the contract is signed and coverage/insurance is accepted, it will not be refundable.
25 years. Must have held a full and valid driving license for at least 2 years at the start of the rental. Drivers aged 21 - 24 years of age may drive certain car groups. A young driver fee will apply to customers between 21-24 years of age. The young driver fee is up from EUR 20.17 per day per driver. The fee varies according to the rental location. Maximum charge of 15 days per driver, per rental. Must have held a full and valid driving license for at least 2 years at the start of the rental. Additionally the following restrictions also will apply for renters between the ages of 21-24: Rentals of car groups H (Full Size) and L (Premium): only permitted to drivers aged 25 years or more and must have held a full and valid driving license for at least 1 year. Other age restrictions may apply to certain groups of vehicles.
At the moment the Rental Agreement is opened, a valid Driver´s License and the driver´s passport must be presented. The License should have been issued at the country of origin. Must have held a full and valid driving license for at least 2 years at the start of the rental. In those cases where an International Driver´s License is presented, it must be presented with the Driver´s License of the country of origin of the driver and the driver´s passport.
Licenses issued by EU countries All valid driving licenses, issued by a member state of the European Union are accepted for the rental, they must always be accompanied by a valid identity document. The license holder who has taken up residence in Italy for over a year does not have the obligation to convert the license, but has the obligation to make it recognized within 90 days from the Department of Motor Vehicles (Ufficio della Motorizzazione). Licenses issued by non-EU countries The customer with driving license issued by a non-EU country must produce, together with their valid driver's license, international driving permit or a certified translation, issued by the Embassy or Consulate. International driver's license is valid for the expressed period. Driving licenses of non-EU citizens, resident in Italy for more than a year, even if accompanied by an international driving license not expired, are no longer valid. All licenses must also be accompanied by a valid passport/identity card If customer does not show neither an international license nor a sworn translation (made by the embassy or by the consulate) the rental will be refused and the reservation not honored. Avis Preferred customers must present their drivers license every time they rent.
Accepted Avis Charge Cards - American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard / Eurocard, Visa (Visa Electron Card is not accepted). Renters renting from certain car groups, must present two (2) credit cards. One credit card must be an American Express or Diners card. Both cards must be issued by a different card scheme/logo. Please verify at time of booking. Russian residents booking in Russia and renting car group H, L and O must present one Avis-honored gold charge card and a passport, entry visa and return airline ticket or ship ticket back.
Debit cards are not accepted.
• Additional drivers: All additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver's license requirements as the renter. All additional drivers must be present at time of pick-up of the rental vehicle. • Cash Rentals: Cash is accepted for all car groups except car groups H, I, L, F, G, O, and P. All cash rentals require a deposit and a Cash Qualification form must be completed at the rental station.
Insurances and Coverages
• Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is optional (taxable) Customer is liable for an amount starting from 5,681 EUR, depending on the car group rented, if Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not taken. If CDW is purchased, the renter's liability is reduced to an amount ranging from 850 EUR to 1,600 EUR , depending on the car group rented. Values subject to change without prior notice. • Theft Protection (TP) is mandatory (taxable) If TP is purchased, the renter is responsible for an amount ranging from 1,700 EUR to 2,800 EUR, depending on the car goup rented. Values subject to change without prior notice. Note: If you require additional insurance coverage you may purchase locally to reduce/remove the insurance excess. Just ask at the Avis rental desk when you collect your car. Global insurance coverages are always subject to change. Please verify at time of rental. IMPORTANT: In all cases, an administrative fee will be charged in the event of damage, theft or traffic offenses.
Optional services, special equipment and one way fees are subject to tax in certain locations.
• ZTL Zone (Restricted Traffic Zone) Only authorised vehicles are allowed into this area. Each city has their own rules and regulations regarding the ZTL zones. For this reason complete details are not available. Please check with the location at the time of pickup.One-way rentals
Avis allows renters to return the car in a different Avis location from where it was picked-up, always within Italy. An additional fee may apply (domestic one-way). Please verify at time of booking. Returning the car in a different country (where this is permitted) always generates a charge for International Drop-Off, that varies according to the ending rental locations. The cost will be informed at the time of reservation.
Travel into other countries
Avis cars rented in Italy are permitted outside of borders, with restrictions. International one-way rentals are allowed, with restrictions. One-way fees will apply.
