General Conditions for car rental in France
At time of rental, when picking-up a car, AVIS customers may choose to accept or to decline optional coverage or insurance by checking into the corresponding box (accept or reject). Once the contract is signed and coverage/insurance is accepted, it will not be refundable.
Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O: 21 years. A Young Driver fee will apply to drivers under 25 years of age. The Young Driver fee is 32.60 EUR per day per driver, with a maximum 10 day charge per driver.
At the moment the Rental Agreement is opened, a valid Driver´s License and the driver´s passport must be presented. The License should have been issued at the country of origin. The license must have at least one year of being issued (5 years for certain car groups). Please verify at time of booking. In those cases where an International Driver´s License is presented, it must be presented with the Driver´s License of the country of origin of the driver and the driver´s passport. International Driving Permit is required unless driver has a license issued within the European Union. Non European Union Holders must show an international driving permit. Applicable to all drivers, a valid driver's license must have been held for a minimum of one year. Driving licenses written in non-roman alphabet must be supported by an international driving permit.
An International credit card accepted by AVIS will be required at the time you collect your vehicle; said credit card will be blocked to be used as a guarantee and to cover any extra charge not included in the Voucher, such as, gas, insurance deductible, etc. For certain car groups, the client must present two (2) credit cards.
Debit cards are not accepted.
• Breathalyzer kit: All cars in France must have two breathalyzer kits. Driver not having them in the car will be liable to a fine. Avis France will provide 2 breathalyzer kits, per vehicle, free of charge. An additional charge will apply for every kit missing or not present at the time of drop-off of the vehicle. Ask at the Avis counter about the costs at the time of booking.
Insurances and Coverages
• CDW coverage. Though OPTIONAL for renters of 25 years or older, this coverage for damage to the vehicle is included in the rates posted on this website. Coverage that partially releases the renter of financial responsibility in case of damage to the rental car, with a deductible. Coverage does not cover damage to the windshield. With CDW, in the event of damage to the Avis car, the renter will be responsible for a deductible starting from EUR 800.00, depending on car group rented. • Protection against theft (TP) is included in the rates posted on this website. With those rates that do not include TP, in case the vehicle is stolen, the customer is responsible for the total value of the rented car. Purchase of TP reduces liability to an amount starting from EUR 800.00 depending on car group rented, in the event of theft of the Avis vehicle. In the event of damages or theft of the AVIS vehicle, the deductible is as follows:

In many locations, Avis allows renters to return the car in a different Avis location from where it was picked-up, always withinFrance. An additional fee may apply (domestic one-way) depending on the starting and ending rental locations. Ask Avis before making your reservation. It is not allowed to return the vehicle in Corsica Island. Returning the car in a different country to the one where the rental was initiated is known as international drop-off. An international drop-off always generates a charge that varies according to the countries. The cost will be informed when making the reservation. Cargo/Vans are not allowed to be returned in other countries. One-way to the United Kingdom is not allowed.
• Additional Driver: EUR 8.00 per day, Tax included. Maximum 12 day charge. In rental offices located in airports or railway stations, the additional driver fee is EUR 9.00 per day, Tax included. Maximum 12 day charge. All additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver's license requirements as the renter. All additional drivers must be present at time of pick-up of the rental vehicle. • Corsica fee EUR 5.00 (Tax included) per day.
Travel into other countries
Avis cars are permitted to cross France borders only into: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Vehicles are permitted to be transported into Corsica. The rental vehicle must be returned in continental France. Travel into Switzerland: All vehicles driving on Swiss highways must purchase a special tax sticker (Swiss Hwy. Sticker). Cost is SFR 40.00 and is available for purchase at the border crossings. Customer is subject to a fine of SFR 100.00 if caught without the sticker. Travel into Austria: All vehicles driving in Austria must have a Toll Sticker that can be purchased at the border. The Toll Sticker is available for specified length of use, with a minimum one-day purchase. Fines for neglecting to purchase the Toll sticker start at EUR 200. Travel into Italy: Mercedes vehicles cannot be driven into Italy. ( ! ) Information and values are subject to change without prior notice.
