General Conditions for car rental in Spain

Importante

At time of rental, when picking-up a car, AVIS customers may choose to accept or to decline optional coverage or insurance by checking into the corresponding box (accept or reject). Once the contract is signed and coverage/insurance is accepted, it will not be refundable.

Continental Spain and Balearic Islands: 21%. 
Canary Islands: 13,5%.
• Minimum age:
25 years. 
A higher minimum age limit may apply to certain car groups.

Drivers aged 21 to 24 years may drive certain car groups by paying a daily fee starting from EUR 20.95 plus Tax per day per driver, depending on the rented car group. Up to a maximum 10 day charge plus Tax per rental, per driver.

The same minimum age conditions apply for additional drivers.

• Driver’s License/Passport:
The renter and the additional drivers must present an International Driving Permit and de Driver’s License of the country of origin (which must have been issued at least one year before) together with the ID or valid passport.

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a translation of the customer's Driver's License only, and it alone is not accepted for the rental of a vehicle.
• Credit Card:
The renter will be required to present an international credit card accepted by Avis at the time of rental. Avis will generally request an authorization hold against the customer’s account for the estimated extra charges not included in the Voucher, such as gasoline, the deductible of the insurance, etc.

Two credit cards are requested to rent car groups H, I, J, K or L.
• Debit Cards:
Debit cards are not accepted.

Optional Insurances / Coverages

• CDW coverage. Though OPTIONAL, this coverage for damage to the vehicle is included in the rates posted on this website
With those rates that do not include CDW, in the event of damage to the vehicle, the customer is responsible for the total value of the rented car. CDW coverage reduces the customer's responsibility (deductible or liability) to an amount ranging between 588.00 EUR and 1260.00 EUR according to the car group rented, in the case of an accident or damage to the car.

• Protection against theft (TP) is included in the rates posted on this website
With those rates that do not include TP, in case the vehicle is stolen, the customer is responsible for the total value of the rented car. TP coverage reduces the customer's responsibility (deductible or liability) to an amount ranging between 588.00 EUR and 1.260.00 EUR, according to the car group rented, in the case of theft of parts or all of the Avis vehicle.

• PAI – Personal Accident Insurance Avis PAI covers medical assistance and expenses in case of illness and/or accident, and a compensation for death or permanent disability of the renter and occupants of the Avis vehicle. Buying this insurance, the driver and occupants of an Avis car will be insured against body injuries if they occur while they are inside the rented Avis vehicle. The coverage will be valid until the date of return indicated on the rental agreement or any extension approved by Avis. Some rates include this insurance. IMPORTANT: In the case of damage, theft to the Avis vehicle or traffic fines, a charge of EUR 50 is applied for administration costs, in addition to the liability amount. Insurances and Coverages

• Additional driver:
In Mainland and Balearic Islands, the additional driver fee starts from 10.00 EUR (IVA included) per day, per additional driver, depending on the starting rental location. Maximum charge of 10 days.
In Canary Islands, the additional driver fee starts from 5.68 EUR (IGIG included) per day, per additional driver, depending on the starting rental location.

Additional drivers must be present at time of pick-up of the vehicle.
All additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and driving license requirements as the main driver.

Additional Charges

• Charges for loss of vehicle parts: In the event of loss of elements of the car, such as keys to the vehicle, beacons, reflective vests, Satellite Navigator and other accessories, etc. additional charges will be applied. Ask about the corresponding amounts at the Avis location.

• Administrative AVIS charges: In the event of traffic penalties (fines) handling, an administrative charge will be established for each one. Administrative surcharges will also be applied in the case of an accident and/or damage or theft to the Avis vehicle. For further information, ask the Avis Rental location.

• One-Way rentals: Many AVIS locations allow renters to return the car in a different Avis location from where it was picked-up, always within mainland Spain (One Way Rentals). For some groups, there is an additional charge for domestic one-way rentals. Ask Avis before making your reservation. 

One-Way rentals from/to the Spanish Islands are not permitted. 
Returning the car in a different country to the one where the rental was initiated is known as international drop-off. An international drop-off always generates a charge that varies according to the countries. The cost will be informed when making the reservation.

• Driving Restrictions: Vehicles may be not driven between different islands or between the Peninsula and the Islands or vice versa, or to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. It is not authorized to transport the vehicle on any type of boat, train, truck or plane (except under special authorization in writing given by Avis).

Travel into other countries

The vehicles are only allowed to be driven into: Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Vatican City, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Sweden and Switzerland. 

Vehicles cannot be driven on any islands of the aforementioned countries.

Travel into France
Any car entering France must have two breathalyzer kits. Driver not having them in the car will be liable to a fine. The kits can be purchased at petrol stations. It is advisable to buy them before crossing the border with France.
