General Conditions for car rental in Dominican Republic
At time of rental, when picking-up a car, AVIS customers may choose to accept or to decline optional coverage or insurance by checking into the corresponding box (accept or reject). Once the contract is signed and coverage/insurance is accepted, it will not be refundable.
Dominican Peso (DOP)
25 years. Drivers between the ages of 21 – 24 years may drive certain car groups by paying a Young Driver Fee of USD 5.00 plus Tax per day. Note: The minimum age for car groups L, H, X, N and K is 25 years.
At the moment the Rental Agreement is opened, a valid Driver's License and the driver's passport or ID must be presented. The License should have been issued at the country of origin. In those cases where an International Driver's License is presented, it must be presented together with the Driver's License of the country of origin of the driver and the driver's passport or ID.
An International credit card accepted by AVIS will be required at the time you collect your vehicle; said credit card will be blocked to be used as a guarantee and to cover any extra charge not included in the Voucher, such as, gas, insurance deductible, etc. IMPORTANT: Credit cards without raised numbers are not accepted in the Dominican Republic without purchasing LDW.
Debit cards are not accepted. • Travel Vouchers: Prepaid rentals require purchase of LDW in case CDW or LDW is not included in the prepayment. To decline LDW, the voucher must have been paid with the same credit card being used for the rental and must show the receipt with the credit card details. Visa, MasterCard or American Express are the only credit cards allowed for voucher rentals. Customer is advised to contact the card issuer prior to the rental to verify coverage.
Avis and Avis licensees reserve the right to refuse any request for rental including requests for persons under age, persons not in possession of a recognized full and valid driver's license, persons unable to satisfy credit or cash requirements, or persons who, in the opinion of Avis, constitute a risk.
Insurances and Coverages
• Motor Liability Insurance Civil Liability and third party property damage insurance is included in the rates. Ask for the limitations of this coverage. • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Coverage that partially or completely releases the renter of financial responsibility in case of theft, loss or damage to the rental car. In all cases, customers must present a police report for any incidents to receive the coverage. Coverage does not cover damage, loss or theft of accessories, tires or glass. For car groups 12 passenger vans, pickups and premium SUVs, this coverage is mandatory and a deductible starting from USD 800.00 is applied, that depends on the car group. For the rest of the car groups, the deductible is “0”. The renter will be responsible for the full cost of the damage if the car is driven in violation of the rental agreement, is abused or driven recklessly or while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. CDW is mandatory for car groups K, L, G, X and M. Some rates have the CDW included in their rates. • Roadside Safety Net (RSN) Service is available at all Avis locations at USD 1.25 per day.
• Additional driver: USD 3.00 plus Tax per driver, per day. All additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver's license requirements as the renter. All additional drivers must be present at time of pick-up of the rental vehicle.One Way Rentals
Avis allows renters to return the car in a different Avis location or city from where it was picked-up, always within Dominican Republic, at an additional cost (Domestic Drop Off) depending on the ending and starting Avis locations. Subject to availability. After hour returns (are available on request): Car must be returned before 11.00 pm at all airports, except SDQ, which is open 24 hours. Travel into other countries
