General Conditions for car rental in Switzerland
At time of rental, when picking-up a car, AVIS customers may choose to accept or to decline optional coverage or insurance by checking into the corresponding box (accept or reject). Once the contract is signed and coverage/insurance is accepted, it will not be refundable.
Swiss Franc (CHF)
21 years for most car groups. A Young Driver fee will apply for drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 years for groups. The Young Driver fee is between CHF 20.00 and CHF 24.00 per day, per driver, plus Tax, up to a maximum charge of 10 days. Values subject to change. For certain car groups, a higher minimum age requirement may apply. Please verify at time of booking.
The renter and the additional drivers must present an International Driving Permit and de Driver’s License of the country of origin (which must have been issued at least 6 months before, or 3 years before. Depending on the car group rented) together with the ID or valid passport. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a translation of the customer's Driver's License only, and it alone is not accepted for the rental of a vehicle.
An International credit card accepted by AVIS will be required at the time you collect your vehicle; said credit card will be blocked to be used as a guarantee and to cover any extra charge not included in the Voucher, such as, gas, insurance deductible, etc. Said credit card must be in the renter's name, no exceptions. Groups H, I, J, P: Two credit cards are required, one of which must be Diners Club or American Express.
Debit cards are not accepted.
• Additional Driver: Between CHF 14.00 plus Tax and CHF 16,80 plus Tax, per day, up to a maximum charge of 10 days per rental. Some rates include an additional driver in their price.
Insurances and Coverages
• Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Though OPTIONAL, this coverage for damage to the vehicle is included in the rates posted on this website. In the case of damages to the vehicle, the customer is liable for the full amount of the Avis vehicle if Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not taken. If CDW is purchased, the renter's responsibility (deductible or liability) is reduced to an amount ranging between CHF 1,500.00 and CHF 3,000.00 according to the car group rented, in the case of an accident or damage to the car. • Theft Protection (TP) This coverage is included in the rates posted on this website. For the rates that do not include this coverage, in the case of theft of the vehicle, the customer is liable for the full amount of the Avis vehicle if Theft Protection (TP) is not taken. If TP is purchased, the renter's responsibility (deductible or liability) is reduced to an amount ranging between CHF 1,500.00 and CHF 3,000.00 according to the rented car group, in the case of theft of the Avis vehicle or its parts. • Super CDW-TP The client has the possibility of eliminating the deductible of the CDW - TP coverages, by purchasing Super CDW - TP at the time of the opening of the contract. Some rates include this coverage. Please ask for further information at the Avis rental location at time of pick-up. • PAI - Personal Accident Insurance Avis PAI covers medical assistance and expenses in case of illness and/or accident, and a compensation for death or permanent disability of the renter and occupants of the Avis vehicle. Buying this insurance, the driver and occupants of an Avis car will be insured against body injuries if they occur while they are inside the rented Avis vehicle. The coverage will be valid until the date of return indicated on the rental agreement or any extension approved by Avis. Some rates include this insurance.Important

Avis allows renters to return the car in a different Avis location from where it was picked-up, always within Switzerland. An additional fee may apply (domestic one-way). Ask Avis before making your reservation. Returning the car in a different country to the one where the rental was initiated is known as international drop-off. An international drop-off always generates a charge that varies according to the countries. The cost will be informed when making the reservation. Avis cars cannot be returned in: Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Corsica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sardinia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Travel into other countries
Avis cars rented in Switzerland are permitted to cross borders into most european countries. Avis cars cannot be driven to Africa, Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and the Commonwealth of Independent States CIS. Car groups H, I, M, S (14 seats only) and P, and vehicles of the following brands: BMW, Porsche and Mercedes rented in Switzerland are not allowed to cross borders to: Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Corsica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sardinia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Mercedes and BMW vehicles belonging to car groups I and J are not authorized to be driven in Italy and the South of France (Aix en Provence, Avignon and surroundings, Cannes, Marsella, Montpellier, Niza, Nimes, Perpignan). Travel into France Any car entering France must have two breathalyzer kits. Driver not having them in the car will be liable to a fine. The kits can be purchased at petrol stations. It is advisable to buy them before crossing the border with France. Travel into Austria All vehicles driving in Austria must have a Toll Sticker that can be purchased at the border. The Toll Sticker is available for specified length of use, with a minimum one-day purchase.
